Petros 79 was a relative of the Lombard king Liutprand 1, he was one of the members of the family (cf. Ansprand 1) who were sent into exile during the reign of king Aripert II (Aripert 1); he was exiled to Spoletium, where, on a visit to the Church of the martyr Sabinus, he was told by the martyr (presumably in a vision) that he would become bishop of Ticinum; subsequently he was bishop of Ticinum during the reign of Liutprand 1 ("eo quoque tempore floruit vita vel actibus Ticinensis ecclesiae episcopus Petrus, qui quia regis erat consanguineus ab Ariperto quondam rege aput Spoletium exilio fuerat retrusus") and he built a basilica to Sabinus on his own property; he was noted for his celibacy, in addition to his other virtues: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 58.
