Petros 3 was archbishop of Thessalonike; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals I 18.86 = Laurent, Corpus V 1, no. 449 = Oikonomides, Dated Seals, pp. 46-47, no. 35. Obv.: bust of St Demetrios and the legends: ὁ ἅ(γιος) Δι(μήτριος) and +Θεοτόκε βοήθει. Rev.: cruciform monogram of Πέτρου ἀρχιεπισκόπου and the legend Θεσσαλονίκης. Named in a list of archbishops of Thessalonike in the Synodikon of Orthodoxy; he was succeeded by Anastasios 3, who in turn was succeeded by Theophilos 12: Gouillard, "Synodikon", p. 114, IX, line 5. For a date perhaps after 733 and before 754 (since the seal is iconic) and the suggestion that he was an iconophile, see Oikonomides, Dated Seals, p. 47, and Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DO Seals I, p. 81, note.
