Anastasios 3 was archbishop of Thessalonike; owner of a seal dateable to the mid eighth century: DOSeals I 18.79 = Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1727 = Zacos and Veglery 1701 = Oikonomides, Dated Seals, pp. 48-49, no. 37. Obv.: cruciform monogram of ὁ Θεὸς βοήθει with the legend τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: cruciform monogram of Ἀναστασίῳ and the circular legend + ἀρχιεπισκ(όπῳ) Θεσσαλονίκης. His date is mid eighth century, between Petros 3 and Theophilos 12 (who was archbishop in 787), and after 754 (since his seal is aniconic): see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 78, note, and also Oikonomides, Dated Seals, p. 47, and Gouillard, "Synodikon", p. 114. Named in a list of archbishops of Thessalonike in the Synodikon of Orthodoxy between Petros 3 and Theophilos 12: Gouillard, " Synodikon", p. 114, IX, line 5.
