Nikephoros 10 was bishop of Dyrrachion; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council); he was absent from the first session, where he was represented by the monk Ioannes 83: Mansi XII 994. He was present at the second session and probably all the others, from 26 September to 23 November 787: Mansi XII 1090-XIII 486. In the list of those present at the seventh session he is styled Νικηφόρου ἐπισκόπου τοῦ Δυρραχίου: Mansi XIII 365. In the list of subscriptions at the fourth session he is styled Νικηφόρος ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Δυρραχιανῶν χώρας τῆς Ἰλλυρικῶν ἐπαρχίας: Mansi XIII 136. Elsewhere he is styled Νικηφόρος ὁ θεοφιλέστατος ἐπίσκοπος τοῦ Δυρραχίου or similar: Mansi XII 1090, XII 1150, XIII 9, XIII 13, XIII 61, XIII 176, XIII 381. At the second session he spoke in support of the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1) and the patriarch Tarasios 1, and added that he would spend the short remainder of his life true to this confession (he was presumably an old man): Mansi XII 1090. At the third session he accepted as orthodox the statement of the faith contained in the letter from the eastern patriarchs and anathematised those who disagreed: Mansi XII 1150. At the fourth session he prayed the Lord for mercy for the church's sins over the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 9. He made further comments during this session on the power of pictures when allied to skilful artistry: Mansi XIII 13. He observed that they were all great sinners and had need of repentance and confession: Mansi XIII 61. Later at this session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 136. At the fifth session he approved Amphilochios of Ikonion' s rejection of the so-called Itineraries of the Apostles and described the passage read from the latter as pollution in their ears: Mansi XIII 176. At the seventh session he subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council: Mansi XIII 381.
