Monocherares 1 was emir of Melitene (Ἀμηρᾶς δὲ τότε τῶν ἐκεῖσε ὄντων σαρακηνῶν ὕπηρχεν ὁ Μονοχέραρες) at the time when the followers of the Paulician Sergios 1 fled there from persecution, after they had murdered the exarchos Parakondakes 1; Monocherares 1 gave them Argaoun to live in, from where they began to raid the Roman empire; Peter of Sicily, 178.
