Known as Michael Ganglianos (Annales Einhardenses), Michael 139 was a patrikios and formerly governor of a province, probably Phrygia; in 798 he was sent with Theophilos 55 as envoy to Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) by the empress Eirene 1, after the overthrow of her son Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8), on a mission concerning peace; when Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) sent them back he allowed Sisinnios 86 to return with them: Annales Regni Francorum s.a. 798 (p. 104) ("erant enim legati Michahel patricius quondam Frigiae et Theophilus presbiter"), Annales Einhardi s.a. 798 ("legati fuere Michahel cognomento Ganglianos et Theophilus presbiter de Blachernis").
