Michael 128 was a monk; he was the author of the oldest Life of Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15): Vita B Theod. Stud. (PG 99) 233-234 (συγγραφεὶς παρὰ Μιχαὴλ μοναχοῦ). He was himself a monk in the Stoudite monastery: Vita B Theod. Stud. 233A (Theodoros 15 is described as ὁ τοῦ καθ' ἡμᾶς συλλόγου πεφηνὼς ποιμενάρχης). The work was written after Methodios 1 became patriarch and after the Triumph of Orthodoxy (in 843): Vita B Theod. Stud., 327A. It was also composed after Sophronios 1 became hegoumenos of the monastery: Vita B. Theod. Stud., 309C. (so perhaps after 868). Wrongly described as the author of another Life of Theodoros 15, also attributed to Theodoros Daphnopates (PBE II): Vita A Theod. Stud. (PG 99) 113-114 (συγγραφεὶς πρὸς Μιχαήλου μοναχοῦ).
