Monk and priest; Metrophanes 2 was one of several monks and priests who visited Italy under pope Nicolas I (Nikolaos 28) and on their return made complaints about the attitude of the pope, demanding that he be punished; his colleagues included Zosimas 2 and Basilios 122; their complaints were reported by Photios 1 to the eastern patriarchates; they are referred to as τῶν μοναχῶν καὶ πρεσβυτέρων: Photius, Ep. 2 (p. 51 Laourdas-Westerink) (written in c. 866).
