Mardanshah 1 was the son of Zarnush (Mrdnsh br Zrnws); he and his son (Anonymus 127) were Christians at Nisibis; they were governors there under the Arabs until Muhammad 2 turned on Christian leaders throughout Mesopotamia and Armenia and had them crucified: Chron. 1234, ยง148 (p. 294). The date was under the caliphate of Abdulmalik 1. Cf. also Symeon 10 and Anastasios 27.
