Manouel 7 was patrikios; husband of Helene 2 (whom Nicolas the Stoudite (Nikolaos 26) cured in 867): Vita Nic. Stud. 916B-C. He himself also fell ill and asked Nicolas (Nikolaos 26) to tonsure him and make him a monk; Nikolaos 26 refused, saying that he would recover and pursue a secular career, holding high offices (τῶνδε τῶν ἀξιωμάτων τῇ τοῦ Χριστοῦ χάριτι τὰς ἀρχὰς διοικήσασθαι) but would later fall ill again, receive the tonsure and die; the prophesy came true and he recovered, held various offices (τοῖς διαφόροις ἐκείνοις ὑπεισελθὼν ἀξιώμασι), then fell ill, was tonsured and died: Vita Nic. Stud. 916C-D.
