According to Tabari, some accounts (not specified) named Malik 4 as the leader of the winter campaign into Byzantine territory in AH 55 (Dec. 674/Nov. 675); three others are named in other accounts as the leader of this campaign, viz. Sufyan b. `Awf al-Azdi (Sufyan 1), `Amr b. Muhriz (Amr 4) and `Abdallah b. Qays al-Fazari (Abdullah 2): Tabari XVIII, p. 180. In AH 58 (Nov. 677/Oct. 678) he raided Byzantine territory: Tabari XVIII, p. 192 (called Malik b. `Abdallah al-Khath`ami). In AH 60 (Oct. 679/Sept. 680), according to one source, al-Waqidi, cited by Tabari, he led a raid against Sawriyah (?Isauria): Tabari XVIII, p. 208. Malik ibn-`Abdallah al-Khathami, nicknamed Malik as-Sawa'if, a Palestinian, made an expedition into Byzantine territory, returning with great booty: Baladhuri, tr. Hitti, p. 298. In AH 56 (Nov. 675/Nov. 676) = 987 Sel. (675/676) Malik ibn Abdullah (m'lk br `bd'lh) spent the winter on Roman territory: Elias, Chron., p. 145, 21-25 = p. 70.
