Leo 283 was apparently the son of Zacharias 5 and brother of Sergios 16 (and therefore an uncle of the patriarch Photius (Photios 1); the information about him is unclear because of a lacuna in the text: Ps.-Symeon 668 (οὗ τινὸς (sc. Sergios) ὁ πατὴρ Ζαχαρίας ὠνόμαστο, ὃς πάλιν ἔσχεν υἱὸν Λέοντα βασι...). This account of Photios 1's origins is very hostile and perhaps linked his ancestry with an unpopular emperor, presumably, for reasons of chronology, Leo V (Leo 15) the Armenian, who reintroduced iconoclasm.
