Zacharias 5 was the father of Sergios 16, grandfather of Photios 1 (the patriarch); he apparently had another son, called Leo, who may have been an emperor Leo (a lacuna in the text leaves the meaning in doubt): Ps.-Symeon 668 (οὗ τινὸς (sc. Sergios) ὁ πατὴρ Ζαχαρίας ὠνόμαστο, ὃς πάλιν ἔσχεν υἱὸν Λέοντα βασι...). This account of Photios 1's origins is very hostile and perhaps linked his ancestry with an unpopular emperor, presumably, for reasons of chronology, Leo V the Armenian (Leo 15), who reintroduced iconoclasm.
