Priest and monk on the island of Amastris, Kyros 1 was patriarch of Constantinople for six years as successor to Kallinikos 2: Nic. Chron. 70, Nic. Brev. de Boor 42, Mango 42, Theoph. AM 6177 (καὶ Κύρου ἔτη β' (Mango and Scott, p. 506 note 7), Theoph. AM 6198 (Κωνσταντινουπόλεως ἐπίσκοπος Κῦρος ἔτη 6), Zon. XIV 25.5. While a monk at Amastris, he met the deposed emperor Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) and told him that he would regain the throne; as a reward he was made patriarch by Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) in 706: Nic. Brev. de Boor 42, Mango 42, Theoph. AM 6198, Zon. XIV 25.5, cf. Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 31 ("Cyrumque abbatem, qui eum in Ponto exulem aluerat, episcopum in loco Gallicini constituit"). In spring 711 the patriarch Kyros 1 was a member of the party, led by the emperor's son Tiberius (Tiberios 4), which greeted the bishop of Rome, Constantine (Konstantinos 136), at the seventh milestone from Constantinople (Hebdomon); while Tiberios 4 led the patricii and the senate, Kyros 1 led the clergy and a multitude of the populace: Lib. Pont. 90.5.

In 712, after the overthrow of Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1), Kyros 1 was deposed by Philippikos 1: Nic. Chron. 70, Theoph. AM 6177, AM 6203, AM 6204, Zon. XIV 26.6 (after six years). He was exiled to the monastery of the Chora: Theoph. AM 6204. According to Paul the Deacon, he was expelled from the pontificate by Philippikos 1 and sent back to Pontus to govern his monastery ("Cyrum ... ad gubernandum monasterium suum Pontum redire praecepit").

Kyros 1's dates were 706 to 712. His successor was Ioannes 4.
