Priest and monk on the island of Amastris, Kyros 1 was patriarch of Constantinople for six years as successor to Kallinikos 2: Nic. Chron. 70, Nic. Brev. de Boor 42, Mango 42, Theoph. AM 6177 (καὶ Κύρου ἔτη β' (Mango and Scott, p. 506 note 7), Theoph. AM 6198 (Κωνσταντινουπόλεως ἐπίσκοπος Κῦρος ἔτη 6), Zon. XIV 25.5. While a monk at Amastris, he met the deposed emperor Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) and told him that he would regain the throne; as a reward he was made patriarch by Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) in 706: Nic. In 712, after the overthrow of Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1), Kyros 1 was deposed by Philippikos 1: Nic. Chron. 70, Theoph. AM 6177, AM 6203, AM 6204, Zon. XIV 26.6 (after six years).
