Kosmas 13 was the husband of Anna 3, and lived at Elaia in Asia; he was the father of Peter of Atroa (Petros 34) and of two other children, a son and a daughter (Paulos 26 and Anonyma 12): Vita Petr. Atr. 2, p. 69. Petros 34, the eldest, was born in 773, after his parents had already been married for some years. The baptismal names of his two sons were Theophylaktos (Petros 34) and Christophoros (Paulos 26). Kosmas 13 was still alive when Petros 34 was eighteen (in 791/792): Vita Petr. Atr. 4, p. 75. Kosmas 13 was a soldier, noted for his physical strength (ἐπὶ ῥώμῃ σώματος καὶ στρατείᾳ ... τεθαυμασμένου): Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata, 2b (Laurent, p. 80). On inferences to be drawn from this about the background and social milieu of Peter, see Laurent, Vita Retractata, intro., pp. 36-38.
