Konstantinos 135 was a deacon of the church of Syracuse; he was appointed rector of the patrimonium of Sicily by pope Conon (Konon 10) (in 686 or 687), without the agreement of the clergy (of Rome), on the advice of bad men, and in spite of the opposition of the church ("absque consensu cleri, ex inmissione malorum hominum, in antipathia ecclesiasticorum, Constantinum diaconum ecclesiae Syracusanae, rectorem in patrimonio Siciliae constituit"); he was unreliable and shifty ("hominem perperum et tergiversutum"), but the pope gave him the privilege of using the official saddle-cloth when he rode on horseback; shortly after the death of Konon 10 (21 September 687) there was a revolt over him among the citizens and the patrimoniales; he was arrested and placed in custody by the provincial governor (Anonymus 238) and then, because there was disagreement among his judges, he was sent to the emperor for judgement: Lib. Pont. 85. 4.
