Konstantinos 134 was called Kapnogenes (Theoph. Cont. IV 44) and Konstantinos Kapnogenes (Theoph. Cont. V 25 (p. 250)). A native of Nikomedeia, he was the brother of Basiliskianos 1 (Basilikinos); he held the post of eparchos of the Polis twice, apparently after 866 (and so probably in the reign of Basil I, Basilios 7): Theoph. Cont. IV 44 (p. 208) (Καπνογένους ἐκείνου τοῦ τὴν ὑπαρχικὴν ἀξίαν ἠξιωμένου τὸ δεύτερον), V 25 (p. 250) (τοῦ κατὰ τὸν Καπνογένην Κωνσταντίνου, τοῦ δὶς τὴν τοῦ ὑπάρχου μετὰ ταῦτα ἐγχειρισθέντος ἀρχήν). The words μετὰ ταῦτα indicate a date after 866. See Winkelmann, Quellenstudien, pp. 84, 112, 174. Cf. also Konstantinos 149.
