Konstantinos 72 was a deacon and notarios in the patriarchal secretariate at Constantinople; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) as one of the officials who read out documents. He is called Κωνσταντῖνος ὁ θεοφιλέστατος νοτάριος τοῦ εὐαγοῦς πατριαρχείου or similar, Mansi XII 1019, XII 1022; Κωνσταντῖνος ὁ θεοφιλέστατος διάκονος καὶ νοτάριος τοῦ εὐαγοῦς πατριαρχείου or similar: Mansi XII 1019, XII 1022, XII 1034, XII 1035, XII 1039, XII 1042, XII 1047, XII 1127, XIII 16, XIII 37, XIII 69, XIII 80, XIII 108. On instructions from the patriarch Tarasios 1, he attended the first session, on 24 September 787, with books from the patriarchal library (the Apostolic Canons, Acts of Church Councils, St Basil, and other Fathers): Mansi XII 1019. He read out extracts to the Council from the Apostolic Canons, the Canons of the First Council of Nikaia and the Canons of the Council of Ephesos, from the Acts of the Council of Chalcedon, the Church History of Socrates, the Life of St Saba and the letters of St Basil: Mansi XII 1019-1023, XII 1034, XII 1035, XII 1042, XII 1047. He informed the Council that books were available containing examples of people ordained by heretics: Mansi XII 1039. At the third session, on 28 September 787, he read out the letter sent by the eastern patriarchs to Tarasios 1: Mansi XII 1127. At the fourth session, on 1 October 787, he read out passages from the works of Asterios of Amaseia, Neilos the monk, Maximos Homologetes (Maximos 10), and St Basil and perhaps from the Life of John Nesteutes: Mansi XIII 16 (Asterios), 37 (Neilos and Maximos), 69-72 (Basil), 80 (John Nesteutes, but there is a problem with the text at this point). He also read at this session the letter of the patriarch Germanos 8 to the bishop of Klaudiopolis, Thomas 14: Mansi XIII 108. Possibly identical with Konstantinos 14.
