Ioannes 459 was the hegoumenos of the monastery of Eukairia in 817 when he was one of the signatories of a letter written by Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) and sent on behalf of the iconophile party to the bishop of Rome, Paschalis 5: Theod. Stud., Ep. 271 (Ἰωάννης ... πρεσβύτερος καὶ ἡγούμενος τῆς Εὐκερίας). Later in 817 he deserted the iconophile cause: Theod. Stud., Ep. 377 (unnamed ὁ ἡγούμενος τῆς Εὐκαιρίας). Cf. Epiphanios 47.
