Ioannes 338 was a patrikios; son of Meze 1; owner of a seal dateable to the late seventh or early eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 388. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννου, υἱοῦ Μεζέ, πατρικίου. He is certainly identical with the apo hypaton Ioannes, also son of Meze and owner of a seal dateable to the late seventh century: Zacos and Veglery 363.The name and titles read: Ἰωάννου, υἱοῦ Μεζέ, ἀπὸ ὑπάτων. It is possible that the titles were held by Meze, the father, rather than by Ioannes, the son. It is not certain which seal came first, whether the patrikios was promoted to be apo hypaton or vice versa.
