Ioannes 181 was monk and metropolitan bishop of Nikomedeia; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century: DOSeals III 83.7 = Laurent, Corpus V 1, no. 376. Obv.: Virgin standing, holding the Child, with a circular inscription reading: +Θεοτοκε βοη τω σω δουλω. Rev.: +Ιωαν - νη μοναχ' και - μητροπ' Νι - κομηδ' - .....
