Ioannes 37 was bishop of Side in Pamphylia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at the last ten sessions (the ninth to the eighteenth, from 8 March to 16 September 681): Riedinger II 2. 264-823 (= Mansi XI 380-672). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Σιδιτῶν μητροπόλεως τῆς Παμφυλῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 782, line 1, 823, line 21, cf. II 2. 892, line 13 (= Mansi XI 641, 669-72, cf. XI 689). In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Ιωάννου ἐπισκόπου Σίδης: Riedinger II 2. 264, line 24, 280, line 21, etc. (= Mansi XI 380, 389, etc.) (his name is omitted from the Greek list of the eighteenth session but is preserved in the old Latin version printed in Riedinger II 2. 756, line 6 (= Mansi, XI 626); cf. also Ioannes 44). He was among the signatories to the copy of the definition of the faith sent to the bishop of Rome, Agatho 1, signing on behalf of himself and the bishops under him: Riedinger II 2. 892, lines 13-14 (= Mansi XI 689) (ὑπὲρ ἐμαυτοῦ καὶ τῆς ὑπ'ἐμὲ συνόδου). He was still bishop of Side in 692, when he attended the Quinisext Council at Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 147, no. 21 (= Mansi XI 989) (Ἰωάννης ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Σιδῶν μητροπόλεως τῆς Παμφύλων ἐπαρχίας).
