Gregorios 80 was the nephew of the Lombard king Liutprand 1; Gregorios 80 was installed as dux of Beneventum by Liutprand 1 in place of another nephew of Liutprand 1, Gisulf 2, because Gisulf 2 was still too young ("aput Beneventum suum nepotem Gregorium ducem ordinavit"); he was also married to Giselperga 1 by the king: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 55. After seven years as dux he died and was succeeded by Godescalc 1: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 56 ("at vero Gregorius dum aput Beneventum annis septem ducatum gessisset, vitam exemptus est").
