Gregorios 24 was a priest; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) as representative of the bishop of Nikopolis in Armenia Secunda; he was probably present at all eight sessions, from 24 September to 23 November 787: Mansi XII 994-XIII 486. In the list of those present at the first session he is styled Γρηγορίου πρεσβυτέρου καὶ τοποτηρητοῦ τῆς ἐπισκοπῆς Νικοπόλεως: Mansi XII 994. In the list of those present at the seventh session he is styled Γρηγορίου πρεσβυτέρου καὶ ἐκ προσώπου Νικοπόλεως Ἀρμενίας δευτέρας: Mansi XIII 368. Elsewhere he is styled Γρηγόριος πρεσβύτερος καὶ τὸν τόπον ἐπέχων τοῦ ὁσιωτάτου ἐπισκόπου Νικοπόλεως, Mansi XII 1095; and Γρηγόριος ἀνάξιος πρεσβύτερος καὶ τοποτηρητὴς τοῦ θρόνου Νικοπόλεως, Mansi XIII 385. His titles should probably be restored in the list of subscriptions at the fourth session, at Mansi XIII 140; the list in Mansi contains the entry Γρηγόριος πρεσβύτερος καὶ ἐκ προσώπου Νικήτα ἐπισκόπου Κολωνείας but four entries later at XIII 141, there is the subscription of Ἰωάννης πρεσβύτερος καὶ ἐκ προσώπου Νικήτα ἐπισκόπου Κολωνείας, a text confirmed elsewhere in the Acta of the Council (see Ioannes 115). An error either in the manuscript or by a printer has apparently replaced the words τοῦ ἐπισκόπου Νικοπόλεως at XIII 140 with Νικήτα ἐπισκόπου Κολωνείας from the adjacent entry. If this is a correct emendation, Gregorios 24 attended the fourth session and subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons. At the second session he spoke in support of the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1) and condemned iconoclasts: Mansi XII 1095. At the seventh session he subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council: Mansi XIII 385. Possibly he was a priest at Nikopolis in Armenia Secunda, but priests from Constantinople sometimes performed this representative function for absent bishops.
