Georgios 137 was a monk and became the synkellos of the patriarch Tarasios 1; he was the author of a chronicle (called "an epitome of history"); the work began at the creation and ended with the reigns of the emperors Maximian and Maximinos (i.e. Galerius and Maximin Daia), from which point it was continued by Theophanes the Confessor (Theophanes 18): Scyl., proem., p. 3 (τὴν ἐπιτόμην τῆς ἱστορίας ἄριστα μετὰ τοὺς παλαίους ἐπραγματεύσαντο πρῶτον μὲν ὁ μοναχὸς Γεώργιος καὶ σύγκελλος χρημάτισας Ταρασίου τοῦ ἁγιωτάτου πατριάρχου, μετ' ἐκεῖνον δὲ ὁ ὁμολογητὴς Θεοφάνης). He is the first writer named by Ioannes Scylitzes in his list of authors in the prooemium to his History. See further ODB II 839 with references.
