Georgios 79 was bishop of Bizye; owner of a seal dateable to the seventh or eighth century: DOSeals I 74.2 = Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1806 (seventh century) = Zacos and Veglery 1332A (eighth or ninth century). Obv.: Virgin Hodeghetria and Child, with invocative monograms of Θεοτόκε and βοήθει. Rev.: cruciform monogram of Γεωργιω επισκοπω, with the letters Βι - ζυ - η - ς in the corners. The name on the monogram on the reverse could be read also as Sergios. Georgios was the name of the bishop of Bizye in 681 and in 692 (see Georgios 18 and 37, possibly one and the same person). The seal perhaps belonged to one of these, but the name is common and the owner of the seal may have been called Sergios, not Georgios. See Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DO Seals, pp. 170-171, note.
