Georgios 8 was apo hypaton and probably kommerkiarios of the apotheke of the andrapoda of Phrygia Saloutaris; owner of a seal dated to 694/695: Zacos and Veglery 187 = Oikonomides, Dated Seals, p. 37, no. 24. Obv.: standing figure of an emperor, (indiction) eight, and a circular inscription reading: Γεωργίου ἀπὼ ὑπάτων. Rev.: αποθι - κης των - ανδραπο - δων Φρυγ - [ω]ν Σαλου - [τα]ριας. The seal is dated to an eighth indiction and the emperor is probably Justinian II; the date is therefore 694/695. On the date, see Oikonomides, op. cit., p. 37. Georgios was evidently controller of the apotheke, presumably as kommerkiarios, although not attested as such on the seal. For the circumstances surrounding this seal, see Oikonomides, "Kommerkiarioi", appendix 2. See also Georgios 247.
