Gemmoulos 2 was a subdeacon in the Church at Rome ("Gemmulum subdiaconum"); between 770 and 772 he was sent as envoy, with Anastasios 37, by pope Stephen IV (III) (Stephanos 84) to the Lombard king Desiderius (Desiderios 3) to request the restoration of the rights ("iustitiae") of the Roman Church which Desiderius had refused hitherto to restore; they returned with the message that pope Stephen should be satisfied that Desiderius had released him from the burden of dominance by Christophoros 26 and Sergios 53 and should refrain from making further demands: Lib. Pont. 97. 5.
