Eudokia 4 was the daughter-in-law of the kaisar Bardas (Bardas 5); they were rumoured to be lovers: Leo Gramm. 240, Georg. Mon. Cont. 826, Ps.-Symeon 667, Theoph. Cont. IV 18 (p. 169), Scyl., p. 94, Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 504B (Bardas was said to have a passion for his own daughter-in-law - τοῦτον τῇ ἰδίᾳ φάσιν ... ἐπιμανῆναι νύμφῃ), Vita Nic. Stud. 905C. Her name is given only in Pseudo-Symeon. She was presumably the wife of either Antigonos 1 or Anonymus 42, perhaps the latter whose marital problems are recorded. The affair led to the downfall and murder of Theoktistos 3 and to the dismissal of the patriarch Ignatios 1 (in late 858); the date was presumably 857/858.
