Anonymus 42 was the son of Bardas 5 and brother of Antigonos 1; he was given a wife by the emperor, but he used to complain about her, and so Michael 7 appointed him monostrategos of the armies of the West; he died out there (τὸν δὲ ἕτερον υἱὸν αὐτοῦ δοὺς γυναῖκα, εἰς ἣν καὶ ἐλοιδορεῖτο, προβάλλεται αὐτὸν μονοστράτηγον εἰς τὰ δυτικὰ θέματα, τελευτήσαντος αὐτοῦ ἐκεῖσε or similar): Leo Gramm. 238, Georg. Mon. Cont. 824, Ps.- Symeon 665. Presumably Anonymus 42 also had a sister, Anonyma 9 (wife of Symbatios 1). Possibly identical with the son of Bardas 5 whose wife became Bardas 5's mistress: Vita Nic. Stud. 905C. His wife was perhaps Eudokia 4.
