His name is given as Euandrios in Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 50. In the longer version of his story in Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 62, his name is not given but he is described as the nephew of the notarios Eugantre 1(ἀδελφιδὸς πέλων τοῦ νοταρίου Εὐγάντρη). He lived in a village called Elos (ἐν κώμῃ καλουμένῃ Ἔλος; apparently in Bithynia); while travelling away from home on business (διά τινα πραγματείαν) he was taken prisoner during an Arab incursion and carried away to Syria; his relatives tried to secure his release by appealing to Leo 251 and Agapetos 4, two high officials then visiting Ioannikios 2 (near the monastery of Antidios, in Bithynia); Ioannikios 2 expressed his belief that if the matter were left to God the man would soon be free; that night Euandrios 1 and his fellow captives were guided to safety by a vision of a man whom Euandrios 1 recognised as Ioannikios 2; subsequently he and his fellow captives visited Ioannikios 2 to thank him: Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 62, cf. Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 50 (a shorter version of the same story). The event took place after the capture of Amorion in 838 and before the death of Ioannikios 2 in 846.
