Cunipert 1 was a Frankish bishop (whose see is unknown); in 800 he was one of the envoys ("missi") sent by Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) to escort the bishop of Rome, Leo III (Leo 11), back from Francia to Rome; in Rome they investigated allegations against Leo 11 and, finding them baseless, arrested the accusers and sent them to Francia: Lib. Pont. 98. 20, cf. 98. 18 (Charlemagne sent high ranking clergy, his own royal council and leaders of the Franks to escort the pope). They were presumably all present when Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) visited Rome shortly afterwards and received the imperial crown from the hands of the bishop of Rome, Leo 11: Lib. Pont. 98. 21-23. For the other members of the embassy, see Arn 1.
