Christophoros 27 was a vicedominus. Early in the pontificate of Stephen IV (III) (Stephanos 84) (in 768) allegations were made against the Lombard priest Waldipert 1 of involvement in a plot to kill Christophoros 26 and deliver Rome to the Lombards; the vicedominus Christophoros 27 was sent with many people to arrest him ("directus est quidam Christophorus vicedominus cum multitudine populi eum conprehendendum"); Waldipert 1 took refuge in the Church of Santa Maria ad martyres, but Christophoros 27 dragged him out and placed him in custody: Lib. Pont. 96. 15. A building called the "vicedominium" is recorded in the Lateran palace (Lib. Pont. 96. 3); presumably the home of the "vicedomini" or their office. In any event, this indicates that they were papal officials.
