Bitalios 4 (Vitalis) was a native of Nova Venetia and was the son of Ioannecenus Particiacus (Ioannecenus 1); he was patriarch of Grado for nineteen years one month six days; he succeeded Victor 7 and was succeeded by Petrus (son of Ioannes Marturius, not in PBE I): Chron. Alt., p. 125 ("Vitalis patriarcha, qui fuit tercius nacione nove Venecie, filius Ioannaceni Particiaci; qui vixit in patriarchatu ann. XVIIII mens. I dies VI"). His dates appear to have been c. 854 to c. 873, according to the lengths of tenure recorded in the Chronicon Altinate.
