Basilios 12 is recorded as slandering Manuel 1 to the emperor Theophilos (Theophilos 5) at the instigation of Myron 2: Georg. Mon. Cont. 796 (ὑπὸ Βασιλείου). He is not named in the parallel accounts in Leo Grammaticus 218 and Pseudo-Symeon 632 and since he is not otherwise alluded to or identified it is possible that the name has crept into the text by mistake through dittography (the text of Leo reads: διεβλήθη τῷ βασιλεῖ ὑποβολῇ τοῦ Μύρωνος ὡς τῆς βασιλείας ὀρέγεται).
