A monk, Barnabas 1 was a regular attendant (ὑπηρέτης, ὑπουργὸς) on Petros 34 (Peter of Atroa) and with Philotheos 2 or Petros 35 often accompanied Petros 34 on his journeys to and from St Zacharias, St Porphyrios and Mt Olympus; Vita Petr. Retractata, p. 143). He and Philotheos 2 attended Petros 34's body after his death, and cured Bartholomaios 1 by washing him and anointing him with oil: Vita Petr. Atr. 89 (Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata, p. 137) (Petros 34 died in 837).
