Anthousa 1 was the daughter of the emperor Konstantinos Kopronymos, Constantine V (Konstantinos 7); she was devoutly religious and refused to marry; after the death of her father she gave away her property to charity; she is said to have refused an offer from the empress Eirene (Eirene 1) to share the government of the empire with her; when she was in the palace she is said to have worn rough clothing underneath her imperial cloak; she became a nun and accepted the tonsure from the patriarch Tarasios 1; she lived in the monastery of Homonoia until her death at the age of fifty two: Synax. Eccl. Const. (18 April), pp. 613-614, cf. 12 April, pp. 597/598-599/600.
