Anonymus 616 was a monk from the Monastery of the Symboloi (τῶν Συμβόλων) (in Bithynia) who delivered a letter from the hesychast Athanasios 18 to the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), concerning the appointment of a new hegoumenos (Anonymus 615); Anonymus 616 is mentioned by Photios 1 in a letter of reply as the letter-bearer (τὸν γραμματοφόρον τῆς ὑμῶν ὁσιότητος), who was worthy of praise and devoted to Athanasios 18: Photius, Ep. 27 (I 77 Laourdas-Westerink). The date of the letter was between 858 and 867, possibly between May 866 and September 867.
