Anonymus 615 was the hegoumenos of the Monastery of the Symboloi (τῶν Συμβόλων); he was recommended for the post by the hesychast Athanasios 18 and was appointed by the patriarch Photius (Photios 1); however the monks of the monastery (Anonymi 20) rejected the appointment of Anonymus 615 and rebelled against the decision; the affair is recorded in two letters written by Photios 1 to Athanasios 18, between 858/59 and 867, possibly between May 866 and September 867: Photius, Ep. 26 (commended by Athanasios 18 and approved by Photios 1), Ep. 27 (revolt of the monks) (I 76ff. Laourdas-Westerink).
