Anonyma 52 was the wife of Sergios 59 and mother of pope Sergius II (Sergios 60); she was apparently of illustrious family ("inlustri ... a matre") and brought up her son strictly to emulate his noble ancestors ("moribus clarescit maiorum coepit nobilium, puris munitus instructusque maternis ingeniis"); already a widow, she died when her son was in his twelfth year: Lib. Pont. 104. 1. The language used suggests that the family was of noble birth but could also be interpreted as referring to nobility of character. She was presumably the mother also of Benedictus (Benediktos 6) and Sergios 60's other, unnamed, brothers. She died some time before pope Leo III (Leo 11), who took Sergios 60 under his care after her death and made him an acolyte before he died in 816.
