Anastasios 87 evidently lived on Lemnos and once held the title of komes but then lost it (he was τὸν ἀπὸ κομήτων); under the empress Eirene 1 he inherited a property on Lemnos on which was a chapel containing the lost relics of St Euphemia; shortly before 796 (see below) he tried to regain his title and he approached the bishop of Chalcedon, Andreas 63, for his support with the empress but was rebuffed, until he told one of Andreas 63's clergy that he knew the whereabouts on Lemnos of the lost relics of St Euphemia; when the news reached Eirene 1 and her son the emperor Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8), Anastasios 87 was given the title of komes again and sent with imperial officials to convey the relics to Constantinople: Constantine of Tios, Translatio Euphemiae 13-14, and cf. Theoph. AM 6258 for the date (the relics were restored to the Church of St Euphemia in Constantinople in 796).
