Amphilochios 1 was bishop of Kyzikos from c. 863 to at least 877, and later was bishop of Nikaia.

Bishop of Kyzikos; in c. 863 Amphilochios 1 was sent with Theodoros 132 and Pantaleon 6 by the patriarch Photios 1 to purify the altar of a chapel of the Theotokos on the island of Plate which had been re-erected by the exiled patriarch Ignatios 1 after Russian raiders had overthrown it: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 532C (metropolitan of Kyzikos - Ἀμφιλόχιόν τε Κυζικοῦ, καὶ Θεόδωρον τῶν Πατρῶν, μητροπολίτας). Later, during Photios 1's second period as patriarch (therefore after 877), Amphilochios 1 was transferred from the see of Kyzikos to that of Nikaia, in succession to Nikephoros 27; he died soon afterwards and was succeeded by Gregorios 26: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 573A (metropolitan of Nikaia - πρὸς τὴν Νίκαιαν μεθίστησι).

Amphilochios 1 was the addressee of a number of letters from the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), mostly of theological content: Photius, Ep. 137 (I 187ff. Laourdas-Westerink), Ep. 162 (II 16ff. Laourdas-Westerink), Ep. 163 (II 20f. Laourdas-Westerink), Ep. 178 (II 65ff. Laourdas-Westerink), Ep. 198 (II 96 Laourdas-Westerink), EP. 207 (II 106f. Laourdas-Westerink) and Ep. 253 (II 190ff. Laourdas-Westerink) (all are of uncertain date and are addressed Ἀμφιλοχίῳ μητροπολίτῃ Κυζίκου or similar).

In 873/875 Amphilochios 1 was in exile and suffering when Photios 1 wrote a letter on behalf of him and the bishop of Laodikeia, Paulos 86: Photius, Ep. 240 (to Nikolaos (PBE II), ὑπὲρ τῶν μητροπολιτῶν τοῦ Κυζίκου καὶ τῆς Λαοδικείας). Cf. Paulos 86 (bishop of Laodikeia).
