He was tourmarches of the Helladikoi (τουρμάρχης τῶν Ἑλλαδικῶν) in 727: Theoph. AM 6218. He was one of the officers from Hellas and the Islands who supported the rebellion of Kosmas 12 in 727, after the emperor Leo III (Leo 3) began to oppose the use of icons (τῶν δὲ περὶ αὐτὸν ἀρχόντων τις Ἀγαλλίανος ὄνομα: Nic.Brev. dB 58, Mango 60:14-15); Agallianos 1 was in command of the expedition against Constantinople (ἡγεῖτο τῆς στρατιᾶς: Theoph.); after their defeat at sea (on 18 April, 727; Theoph.) near Constantinople he committed suicide, leaping fully armed into the sea: Nic.Brev. dB 58, Mango 60:14-17, Theoph.
