Achillas 1 was hegoumenos of the monastery of Stoudios at Constantinople, appointed by the emperor Michael III (Michael 11) and the Kaisar Bardas 5 in succession to Nikolaos 26 (in 858, after the dismissal of the patriarch Ignatios 1 and the withdrawal of Nikolaos 26 to Prainetos); described as an upright character: Vita. Nic. Stud. After five years as hegoumenos he was appointed archbishop of Nakoleia and was succeeded at Stoudios by Theodosios 43: Vita. Nic. Stud.
