Zemarchos 1 was bishop of Sidyma in Lycia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September 681): Riedinger, pp. 692-827 (= Mansi XI 616-678). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, he is styled Ζήμαρχος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Σιδύμων: Riedinger, p. 792, line 28 (= Mansi XI 652). The old Latin version calls his see "ciuitatis Sidimorum": Riedinger, p. 793, line 31 (= Mansi XI 651). In the signatures to the Council he is styled Ζήμαρχος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος Σιδύμων τῆς Λυκαονίας: Riedinger, p. 827, line 31 (= Mansi XI 677). The old Latin version here, available only in the Mansi edition, calls his see "civitatis Sidymorum Lycaoniae provinciae" : Mansi XI 678. In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Ζιμάρχου ἐπισκόπου Σιδύμων: Riedinger, p. 692, line 4, p. 762, line 14 (= Mansi XI 616, 629). Sidyma was certainly in the province of Lycia, not Lycaonia; the text at Riedinger, p. 827, line 31 (= Mansi XI 677) and at Mansi XI 678 should be corrected accordingly.

Still bishop in 692, Zemarchos 1 attended the Quinisext Council in Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 162, no. 156 (= Mansi XI 1000) (Ζήμαρχος ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Σιδύμων ἐπαρχίας Λυκίας).
