Zacharias 6 was a priest at Constantinople; he was sent on a mission to the bishop of Rome by the patriarch Methodios 1 (843-847) and while there was illegally consecrated as bishop by the bishop of Syracuse, Gregorios 26: Ps.-Symeon 671. The story forms part of a narrative which is strongly hostile to Photios 1 and favourable to Ignatios 1.
