Wilfrid 1 was bishop of York (Eboracum) in Britain; he was legate of a council of bishops in Britain and was one of the hundred and twenty-five Western bishops who attended the Council of Rome at Easter 680, and who subscribed the decree condemning monotheletism: Riedinger, p. 148, lines 4-6 (= Mansi XI 305-306) (Οὐλβυνθρίδους ἐλάχιστος ἐπίσκοπος τῆς ἁγίας ἐκκλησίας Ἐβροϊκῆς νήσου τῆς Βρεττανίας, λεγάτον τῆς σεβασμίας συνόδου τῆς ἐν Βρεττανίᾳ καθεστώσης (sic); the old Latin version printed in Riedinger, p. 149, lines 4-6 calls him "Uilfridus humilis episcopus sanctae ecclesiae Ebroicae insulae Brittaniae, legatus uenerabilis sinodi per Brittania constituti").
