In AH 48 (Feb. 668-Feb. 669) Uqbah 1 was leader of the Egyptian contingent in a joint naval expedition with the people of al-Madinah (who were under al-Mundhir 1) against the Byzantines; overall commander of the expedition was Khalid 2: Tabari XVIII, p. 93.
