A native of Armenia, Tiridates 1 was a cousin of Artabasdos 1 and was a well- known soldier (καὶ τὸν μὲν πατρίκιον Τηριδάτην τὸν Ἀρμένιον, στρατιώτην γενναῖον ὑπάρχοντα καὶ ἐξάδελφον Ἀρταουάσδου); in August 743 he was one of the notable leaders who were killed in the battle of Modrina fighting for Niketas 4 against the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7): Theoph. AM 6234 (σὺν ἄλλοις ἐπιλέκτοις ἄρχουσιν). He was an Armenian notable and presumably an army officer. See Rochow, Konstantin V, pp. 241-242.
