Tilpin 1 was bishop of Remi (Reims); he was one of the twelve bishops sent from Francia by Charlemagne and Carloman (Karoulos 1 and Karoulomannos 2) to attend the Council of Rome in 769; they were all chosen for their knowledge of Scripture and canon law (see text cited under Ado 2): Lib. Pont. 96. 17 ("Tilpinus, episcopus civitate Remensis"). He is named twelfth of the twelve (actually thirteen) bishops named in the list of those from Francia.
